A basketball goal cemented into the ground without a hoop stands in front of an abandoned house facing an empty two-lane street. The word “boi” penned into the black grime covering the backboard seems to be directed towards me. Commanding my inner child, it screams at me all of my broken, forgotten dreams. “Remember us!” it yells. “Come back to us!” it pleads.
I stare. Then the shutter clicks, and I walk away. “Shattered Backboard.”
